[Book] 50 Years In Exile: The Story of a Band in Transition

Missing

A second book has been released on the band Exile. 50 Years In Exile: The Story of a Band in Transition, a book by Eastern Kentucky University musicologist Randy Westbrook, has just been released by Acclaim Press.  This comes on the heels of another book commemorating the band's 50th Anniversary -- Eve Nicole Lemaire's Life In Exile--A Journey Home.  Lemaire's book is an insider's perspective to the band's rich history from founding, past, and current band members.

Westbrook's book analyzes every song (musicians, instruments played, recording techniques used, etc.) ever recorded by Exile, yet made interesting to non-musical readers by intertwining a detailed 50-year anthology of Exile. Also included are countless anecdotes taken from interviews with band members (past and present) and accurate accounts of how career-making decisions were made.  “The history of Exile is broad,” comments Westbrook.  “The scope of the group's influence on music in Central Kentucky and beyond is impressive.  It was a pleasure to interview 13 of the members during the research process."

Lemaire's tribute to the band encompasses personal insights -- Lemaire is daughter of Exile member Sonny Lemaire -- highlighting the trials and tribulations that go along with being an internationally top-selling band of musicians and songwriters.  Her book also includes personal interviews with band members, along with others closely associated with the band over the years.  “Writing this book was the most rewarding experience of my life, says Lemaire.  “It was wonderful hearing all the old stories, and putting everything together in a narrative that captured their amazing story. I grew up with Exile, and I couldn't be more proud to honor them and their contribution to music.”

The release of both of these books is a testament to the impact Exile has had among music fans internationally and their depth of work in multiple formats of music.  Currently the band is on tour celebrating their 50th Anniversary.  Band members include J.P. Pennington, Les Taylor, Sonny Lemaire, Steve Goetzman and Marlon Hargis.

Both books are available on Amazon as well as various retail outlets.
